چکیده

Xausa, Beghi, and Zanforlin (J. Math. Psychol. 45(4) (2001) 635) provide an account of perceptual organization based on their ‘minimal relative motion’ principle. They claim that this principle can account for the percept generated by a contracting bar that is simultaneously translating laterally. We critique the mathematical analysis provided in the aforementioned paper. We conclude that the ‘minimal relative motion’ principle, in the form presented, cannot adequately explain the percept reported by observers. r 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

On the minimal relative motion principle—the oscillating tilted bar

Beghi, Xausa, Tomat, and Zanforlin (J. Math. Psychol. 41(1997) 11) present a visual stereokinetic illusion. In the image plane, one end of an oblique bar moves horizontally back and forth, while the other end is stationary. Perceptually, this becomes a bar of a constant length rotating in depth around a vertical axis that passes through the stationary end of the bar. Beghi et al. (1997) provide...

Closed-form Solution of Dynamic Displacement for SLGS Under Moving the Nanoparticle on Visco-Pasternak Foundation

In this paper, forced vibration analysis of a single-layered graphene sheet (SLGS) under moving a nanoparticle is carried out using the non-local elasticity theory of orthotropic plate. The SLGS under moving the nanoparticle is placed in the elastic and viscoelastic foundation which are simulated as a Pasternak and Visco-Pasternak medium, respectively. Movement of the nanoparticle is considered...

بررسی شدت نسبی سیگنال تصاویر Magnetic Resonance در بافت رترودیسکال و عضله پتریگوئید خارجی و رابطه آن با یافته‌های Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background and Aims: Disc displacement is the most common temporomandibular joint disorder and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard in its diagnosis. This disorder can lead to changes in signal intensity of magnetic resonance (MR). The purpose of this study was evaluation of correlation between relative signal intensity of MR images of retrodiscal tissue, superior and inferior ...

Force Reduction Factor R for Shear Dominated Low-Rise Brick Masonry Structures

This paper presents investigation carried out, including experimental and numerical studies, on low-rise shear-dominated brick masonry structures for the calculation of force reduction factor R. Basic experimental tests were conducted on masonry constituent materials for mechancial characterization. In-plane quasi-static cyclic tests were conducted on twelve full scale brick masonry walls, to u...

A clinical decision-making model for repeat surgical treatment of pectus Bar displacement: distance measurement after nuss procedure

BACKGROUND Bar displacement is one of the most common and serious complications after the Nuss procedure. However, measurements of and factors affecting bar displacement have not been reported. The objectives of this study were to develop a decision model to guide surgeons considering repeat treatment and to estimate optimal cut-off values to determine whether reoperation to correct bar displac...
